Dr. Geetha specializes in IT and has worked as a Principal Research Scientist and Research Manager at Hewlett Packard Labs India for 17 years and a team leader at C-DAC Bangalore. She has also led a team in the Data Analytics Lab at the Xerox Research Centre India (XRCI). She takes a keen interest in mentoring researchers to come up with innovative solutions in healthcare and education. Her motivating words, “Give your 100% to whatever you do. Enjoy the learning experiences on the path, as it is more valuable than the goal itself” had guided many in their journey of research.
Her efforts have led to the development of a breakthrough AI solution for early-stage breast cancer detection with the NIRAMAI team. It provides a radiation-free, non-invasive, non-touch, breast cancer screening solution called 'Thermalytix'. It detects the disease by analyzing temperature variations on the chest using an AI-based tool. It measures 4 lakh points in an individual to sense thermal abnormalities. The AI algorithm accuracy is 30 percent higher than thermography and sensitivity is 25% better than mammography and so helps early detection. Niramai also assists NGO workers to conduct screening camps to detect cancers missed in clinical-breast examinations. Niramai has even initiated home screenings, such that trained personnel attends to individuals aiming to get tested at home either as a preventive screening or for regular follow-up post-surgery. While they have started the service in 16 cities, they plan to expand this by partnering with different hospitals and private clinics.
Dr. Geetha has authored a book named “Moving to the Cloud”. She has 15 US patents in her name with many more in the pipeline.
